Mondo Nights: Adverts For Products That Do Not Exist

Mondo Nights present the ‘weirdest in world cinema’ at their regular pop-up film nights and socials, often programming in partnership with grassroots community groups to promote a collaborative, DIY cinema culture. ‘Products That Do Not Exist’ is 90 minutes of strange and cautionary filmmaking from both sides of the Iron Curtain. On one side, the eerie, infamous films from the UK’s Central Office for Information and on the other, the maverick advertising of the USSR ad director Harry Egipt.

An atmosphere of paranoia and surreal visual effects permeate these two filmmaking styles, despite one selling luxury consumer goods and one cautioning British children against the dangers of the farmyard slurry pit. Including Nicolas Roeg’s AIDS awareness campaign from 1987 and a rarely-seen selection of Harry Egipt’s TV commercials.
